Description: | From Dia de los Muertos Festival Website: Spirits will connect at the Mesa Arts Center's annual Da de los Muertos Festival.
Individuals, families and groups may participate in an Altar Contest presented by Mesa Arts Center in collaboration with the Consulate General of Mexico in Phoenix and the Mesa Association of Hispanic Citizens.
Elements of the Altar and their Significance
Arches: Passageways between life and death
Candles: Light, Faith and Hope
Flowers: Remind us that life does not endure
Traditionally: Cempasuchil - Marigolds
Mano de Leon - Cockscomb - Lions Paw
Incense: Cleans the space of negativity
Traditionally: Copal
Ofrendas: General items for the offerings put on the altar
Water: Life and purity, satisfies the thirst of the spirit
The Day of The Dead festival will feature delicious foods, a colorful mercado featuring an assortment of Da de los Muertos merchandise, jewelry, arts and crafts.
Our attendees have been treated to wonderful live entertainment every year, by noted local and regional acts such as Mariachi Corazon de Phoenix, Ballet Folklorico Amistad, Sol Gitana, Joe Granado y su Orquestra Kaliente, Noemy Esparza and Nosotrosound just to name a few.
Festival admission and parking are free.
The Mesa Arts Center is grateful to the volunteer members of our Day of the Dead event planning committee, who meet regularly throughout the year to guide MAC staff and help present the very best celebration possible.
